Hello all, and welcome to my blog! This is what my baby, Natalia looked like when I found her. So, let me just give you some background information. I rescued this girl from a back yard breeder in october of 2010. The reason I say I "rescued" her is because I DID. I DID NOT pay her breeder any sort of money. He wanted to get rid of her, and his words were "I tried dumping her out in the country somewhere but the damn dog made it back". (Well ain't that a shame? She made it back!) He also told me that she basically wasn't big and mean enough for his ego. According to his neighbors, the dogs were not fed very often, and this little pit bull appeared to be the thinnest, and suffered from a staph infection, and possible demodectic mange, as we would later find out.
It was a hard battle to get her in my parent's home, and an even harder battle to keep her there. All the rescues I contacted all over the Southeast were full. Finally, I called Guilford County Animal Shelter in Greensboro NC to see if they could take her. After all, they were "no kill". Well I got on the phone with this woman and told her I had a surrendered female pit bull - thats all I got out of my mouth before she cut me off. "ma'am, we dont take pit bulls. If you bring her here, we will put her down" I could feel my blood begin to boil. What were they thinking, calling themselves "no kill" and yet killing not only pit bulls, but rottweilers, and chow chows as well. As former Senator Robert Byrd would say to Mike Vick, SHAME! SHAME!!SHAME!!!
Anyway, that was it. I started crying and said I had already named her, and my parents gave in. She was mine. My loveaBULL Natalia.
